Linguistics Lessons
Here is the link to lesson 1, which includes definitions. In class we read and discussed the passage 1 and the questions. We also read and created open-ended questions for passage 2. Homework is to select either article 1 or article 2 and create six to eight multiple choice questions about the selected article. These questions should be TOEFL style and represent a variety of questions types (Detail, Inference, Purpose, Vocabulary, ect). When creating the incorrect answer choices, be sure to engage the typical distractors found on the TOEFL test (distortion, extremity, reversal, negation, ect.) Homework also includes five vocabulary sentences based on the words from class.
Here is the link to lesson 2, which includes the definitions. Here is a link to the extended version of the podcast on language. Please go back and listen again to the excerpt from class or listen to the entire selection to practice listening skills (if you are overwhelmed by the pace, you can find a link to the transcript here). In addition, here is a link to the lectures from class. I intend to introduce more simulations of task 6 into the advanced integrative portion of class.
