Mission to Mars Lessons

Here is a link to part 1 of the lesson READING, which includes the definitions. Homework for today includes:
  • Create three method questions for passage 2 from class. Use the list of rhetorical strategies to from the lesson to guide you.
  • Compose five to ten vocabulary sentences using any ten words from this lesson.
  • Read the homework passage (3) and create eight questions. Your questions can be open-ended, but must include at least two method questions.
  • Study for a vocabulary quiz on the words from last week CHILD LABOR. You can find a word list with definitions on that post.
  • Begin studying for a vocabulary quiz on Thursday on the words from section 15 of the CGT text.
  • Complete all incompleted exercises from this morning paraphrasing through negation and sentence combining. A link to the workeets can be found here.
IF YOU HAVE ANY MISSING ASSIGNMENTS FROM LAST WEEK, SUBMIT THEM AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, ESPECIALLY THE ESSAY. IT IS VERY HARD TO CATCH UP IN THIS CLASS IF YOU DO NOT DO THE HOMEWORK ON TIME. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO GET A B OR BETTER IN THIS CLASS IF YOU DO NOT COMPLETE MOST ASSIGNMENTS.

  • Complete the exercises on Paraphrasing by Definition and the comprehensive pararaph
  • Go on my blog and read through the lectures from class. Find five words that you did not know and look up their definitions. Write down the word and its meaning to submit.
  • Read through the lectures and create two additional method questions (and the answers) based on the list of rhetorical strategies discussed in class. Turn these in with the vocabulary.
  • Conduct a little research and find a film set (at least in part) on Mars. Find a You Tube clip of the film. Watch the film and write a summary of the clip. Include a detailed description of the way Mars is portrayed in the clip. E-mail me a link to the clip no later than 12:00 on Tuesday night.
  • Continue to study for the CGT vocabulary test section 15.
Here is a link to part 3 of the lesson SPEAKING. Homework assignments for this day of class include the following:
  •  Listen to the recording you made of yourself this morning. Create a transcript of your response. Be sure to transcribe the words exactly as you recorded them.  Using a red pen or the “track changes” tool in word, go back and edit your response by fixing the grammar and changing awkward sentences and constructions.
  • Study for the vocabulary quiz on the words from the CGT text section 15 for a quiz tomorrow.

  • Revise returned integrative essay
  • Complete rhetorical strategies practice from class. Use the revised handout I created and distributed with extra examples.

Child Labor Lessons

Here is the link to part 1 READING. This link includes definitions from part 1 as well. Homework for today is the following:
  • Complete passage 2 questions (TOEFL and IEP)
  • Compose 5 (IEP) and 10 (TOEFL) vocabulary sentences using any ten words from today's lesson
  • Find an article on this topic and identify all pronouns and their antecedents (TOEFL only)
  • Read the homework passage and answer the questions (TOEFL and IEP)
